International Cleaning Week 2026 ran from March 22 through March 28, and while the week itself has passed, what happened leading up to it and because of it is worth taking a moment to share. The cleaning and facility services industry does not always get its moment in the spotlight, and when it does, it deserves to be recognized properly.
So here is our moment.
Earlier this year, Prestige Maintenance USA worked with ISSA, the world’s leading trade association for the cleaning and facility solutions industry, to submit a formal request to Governor Greg Abbott asking the State of Texas to officially recognize International Cleaning Week 2026.
Governor Abbott signed the official proclamation on February 5, 2026.
That is not a small thing. It means the State of Texas formally acknowledged that the men and women who show up every day to clean hospitals, schools, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and public spaces are essential to the health, safety, and economy of this state. It means cleaning professionals got official recognition from the office of the Governor.
We are incredibly proud to have been part of making that happen.

We want to be clear about something: we did not do this alone, and we do not want to pretend otherwise.
ISSA, the Association for Cleaning and Facility Solutions, is the organization that makes proclamation efforts like this possible. With more than 11,000 members worldwide, ISSA does the heavy lifting of advancing the cleaning industry at a policy, public awareness, and professional development level that individual companies cannot do on their own. They provided the framework, the process, and the support that made it possible for us to submit a request to Governor Abbott’s office and receive a response.
This year, ISSA also aligned their Clean Advocacy Summit with International Cleaning Week, bringing industry leaders to Capitol Hill to advocate directly with Congress on issues that matter to our industry: strengthening the Safer Choice program, modernizing workforce tax credits, and addressing the ongoing labor shortage that affects every company in this space.
Prestige Maintenance USA attended and sponsored that advocacy event. We were in those rooms. We are part of those conversations. That is the kind of industry partner we believe a commercial and industrial facility services company should be.
International Cleaning Week is not a one-and-done recognition. The work that the cleaning and facility services industry does not stop because a calendar week ended. And neither does the advocacy.
Governor Abbott’s proclamation put it well. Cleaning professionals serve as indispensable frontline workers whose efforts often go unnoticed but whose impact is felt daily. They meet rigorous standards of safety and hygiene, play a critical role in infection control and emergency response, and contribute meaningfully to the economic stability of our state.
Those are not talking points. That is the daily reality for the Prestige team and for every professional in this industry.
The data backs it up. According to ISSA research, properly cleaned and disinfected surfaces reduce virus concentration by 41.7 percent. When combined with proper hand hygiene, that number increases to 85.4 percent. In 2024, the global economy lost an estimated $438 billion in productivity due to employees being unable to perform at full capacity because of illness. Clean facilities are not a luxury. They are an economic and public health investment.
We want to thank Governor Greg Abbott for signing this proclamation and for recognizing the professionals in our industry who show up every day, often before anyone else arrives and after everyone else has left, to make sure the spaces we all depend on are clean, safe, and ready.
We want to thank ISSA for the work they do to advocate for this industry at every level, from the statehouse to Capitol Hill. They make efforts like this one possible, and the industry is stronger because of them.
